How to Use IFTTT to Automate Your Craigslist Searches

They say that when you are living in New York City- that you are always searching for something.  It could be an apartment, a job, a roommate, a piece of furniture, or even a lover.

Luckily there is a tool that can help you find all of that.  Yes, even a lover (although, I don’t recommend it).

That tool is Craigslist.  If you are unfamiliar with Craigslist, then you should probably crawl out from the rock that you have been living under and go have a look.

In the modern world, you can find everything that you need to survive on Craigslist.  In fact, one man set out to do just that – find everything he needed to survive only through Craigslist and he documented the whole story for you to watch (You can check it out on Netflix).

Until very recently, finding what you need on Craigslist has had a major downside: it can be very time consuming to constantly scan listings to find what you are searching for.

But all that has changed, thanks to a free web service called IF This Then That (IFTTT).

IFTTT allows you to set up an automatic email to yourself anytime a Craigslist search matching your criteria is posted- letting you be the first to respond to that post about a sweet apartment, or a free desk, or a bartending job, or whatever.

Now that there is IFTTT, people who are moving to NYC, or who already live here, have a much less time consuming way to find exactly what they are looking for on Craigslist.

So Next time you are looking for an NYC bartending job, or trying to find an NYC apartment, or looking for an NYC roommate, you can automate your search with IFTTT.

Click here for an IFTTT receipt that will automatically send you an email anytime something is posted matching your search criteria.
